Travel through the heart of the Swiss Alps by train. Visit alpine villages and historic cities like Lucerne and Bern. Immerse yourself in Swiss culture from meeting St. Bernards to savoring Swiss chocolate. Our tours are crafted with local knowledge, trusted partnerships, and a commitment to responsible travel that shows in every experience.
Switzerland has four national languages. German is most widely spoken, particularly in central and eastern Switzerland, while French dominates the west, and Italian is common in the south. On Collette’s tours, local guides help you navigate language shifts with confidence.
Weather varies by region, elevation, and time of day. Even in summer, cooler temperatures (and remnant snow!) are common in the mountains, while lakeside cities tend to be milder. Pack clothing you can layer and comfortable walking shoes.
Cheese and chocolate offer a delicious window into Swiss culture. Travelers can look forward to specialties like fondue, raclette, and local chocolates.

When I travel, I’m inspired by the stories that shape a destination — its history, people, traditions, and everyday rhythms. That’s why I create tours that include authentic local experiences. I want my tours to feel engaging, purposeful, and memorable, so you go home with a deeper understanding of the places you’ve been.

Honestly the tour exceeded my expectations. My favorite part would have to be going up the mountains. The yodeling was a fun team building experience. Leanne is a sweetheart and went out of her way to help anyone if they had questions about what to do on their free time. She even met up with anyone that wanted to see the Rose Garden and the bears in Bern. And Sergio the bus driver, that man has skills.

The excursion to Mount Pilatus was awesome. Going up on the funicular. The view from the top. And coming down on the gondolas.

I absolutely loved this tour! As this was my trip to Europe, I couldn’t have asked for better way to experience this beautiful part of the world! Our tour director was amazing! She was very available for questions, was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip unforgettable! Sergio, the bus driver, was also great! I can’t say I had just one favorite memorable experience. I traveled with my elderly father, stepmother and brother. This tour was about building memories to last a lifetime. For me, Collette Tours exceeded all of my expectations and more! I’m looking forward to my next adventure with Collette!

Simona was an exceptional tour manager, always informative, kept us updated with the proper notice for the next event, and calm/collected. She brought so much peace to this fast-paced tour. Andre was an amazing tour navigator, very safe driver and always calm. We absolutely loved all the sights included with this tour. It's impressive all of the logistics that went into this tour, and how seamless it flowed. Highly recommend to anyone looking to travel and explore new places without the hassle of organizing transportation, hotels, and excursions.

Many wonderful experiences! The concert in Vienna was an incredible experience for me!I am 83 and the concert took me back to public school days in Birmingham, Alabama, when our teachers took the whole class to hear the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra playing the same pieces that were superbly done in Vienna, enhanced by the vocalists and the ballet performers. I loved the architecture, history, food , and friendships made on the tour. My bucket list is almost complete.

This was our first time in Europe, so enjoyed all sight. Wish inclusions would have included tour on Notre Dame in Paris. All tour guides were excellent, especially the Vatican guide, except for the one in Paris (she was rather boring and lacked enthusiasm!

Wonderful tour. Enjoyed everything with the exception of hotel in Venice, Paris local tour guide, and bad experience with dispatcher of ING Transport in US. Tour Manager was excellent. Fav memory was Florence, just exploring the town with my daughters who joined me on the tour.

Our river cruise was wonderful. Collette and our tour manager were very adept and creative when the level of the water in the Rhine forced a change in our itinerary. Even on the short bus rides our tour manager found something to show us, which we would never have seen otherwise. We scheduled an extra day in Amsterdam at the end of our cruise, which allowed us to spend more time in this fascinating city. We will certainly be looking into another river cruise with Collette.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience traveling through Austria, Germany, and Switzerland in September! A huge thank-you to our amazing tour guide, Carmen, and our incredible bus driver, Joseph, for helping make this trip so memorable. Carmen was knowledgeable, friendly, organized, and passionate about sharing the beauty, history, and culture of each destination. Her stories, insights, and attention to detail brought every place we visited to life. She made sure we felt informed, comfortable, and well taken care of throughout our journey. Joseph was equally fantastic! Navigating the beautiful but sometimes challenging Alpine roads takes great skill, and he handled every mile with professionalism and confidence. We always felt safe and comfortable, and his calm, friendly demeanor made our travels even more enjoyable. Together, Carmen and Joseph made the perfect team! Their hard work, kindness, and dedication helped create a trip filled with breathtaking scenery, wonderful memories, and experiences we will treasure for years to come. Thank you both for going above and beyond and for making our September adventure through the Alpine countries such a special experience. You truly helped make this trip one to remember! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver! ❤️

Embark on an invigorating journey through Europe’s towering Alps and idyllic towns.
U.S. and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Switzerland. Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, which allows travelers to visit for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. Passport validity requirements still apply. Collette provides guidance on entry requirements prior to departure, but travelers are responsible for ensuring their documents are valid at the time of travel.
Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc (CHF), not the euro. While some businesses — especially in tourist areas — may accept euros, change is typically given in Swiss Francs. Credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country, and travelers generally find it easy to use cards for personal expenses.
The best time to visit Switzerland depends on what you’d like to experience. Late spring through summer offers your best chance at clear mountain views, scenic rail journeys, and lake cruises. Early fall brings cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and beautiful alpine landscapes. Winter tours focus more on cultural traditions and seasonal experiences — such as Christmas markets — rather than outdoor adventure. Collette offers Switzerland tours across multiple seasons, each designed around the time of year.
Many Collette Switzerland tours include destinations like Lucerne, the Bernese Oberland, Zermatt, St. Moritz, and scenic alpine regions connected by famous rail routes. Travelers often enjoy Lake Lucerne cruises, panoramic train journeys like the Glacier Express or Bernina Express, and exploring historic old towns with local guides.
Switzerland is considered one of the safest countries in Europe, with low crime rates and excellent infrastructure. Travelers should still take normal precautions, particularly in busy areas, but most Collette guests feel very comfortable traveling here. Guided touring also provides added peace of mind, with professional Tour Managers handling logistics and support throughout the journey.
Activity levels vary by tour, but most Switzerland tours involve moderate walking including city walks, train stations, and uneven surfaces in historic areas. Scenic rail journeys and lake cruises offer more relaxing days. Each Collette tour lists a specific activity level so you can choose a tour that matches your pace and mobility needs.
Transportation is included throughout Collette’s Switzerland tours and usually includes a mix of motorcoach travel, scenic trains, and boats. Iconic rail routes like the Glacier Express, Bernina Express, and GoldenPass Line are highlights on select tours, turning travel days into memorable experiences.
Expect dishes like fondue, raclette, alpine cheeses, chocolate specialties, and locally sourced meats and produce with some variation between regions influenced by the surrounding countries. Many Collette tours include meals or tastings that highlight regional flavors, such as raclette enjoyed at a dairy farm or meals featuring traditional Swiss ingredients. Dietary needs can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
Switzerland’s weather can change quickly, especially in alpine regions, so layered clothing is recommended year-round. Comfortable walking shoes are essential with a good grip for cobblestones, and even summer travelers should bring a light jacket for cooler mountain temperatures. Collette provides packing guidance before departure based on the specific tour and season.
Tipping is not required in Switzerland, as service charges are typically included. That said, rounding up a bill or leaving a small gratuity for excellent service is appreciated.
Switzerland’s geography, transportation systems, and regional differences can be complex to navigate independently. Collette’s guided tours simplify the experience by handling logistics, securing scenic rail reservations, and providing expert local insight along the way. Travelers benefit from thoughtful pacing, knowledgeable Tour Managers, and access to experiences that can be hard to puzzle together on your own.
From handpicked hotels, restaurants, and cultural experiences to thoughtfully integrated free time, our on-the-ground team in Switzerland crafts journeys they'd want to take themselves.
Travelers always tell us that Tour Managers make the journey. It's like traveling with a friend who's got the inside scoop. They live in the destination and share hidden gems that only the locals know.
Discover storybook castles and opulent palaces amidst stunning Alpine vistas as you explore Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
