Venice draws you in with canal-side cafés, the glow of St. Mark’s Square, and quiet bridges off the main lanes. Visiting on one of Collette’s expert-led tours brings you even deeper with experiences like a glassblowing demonstration in Murano, tasting cicchetti in a neighborhood bacaro, or visiting a shipyard where gondolas are restored.
Peak season runs from March through October — and crowds will mean longer wait times. July and August are very hot and people head for the beaches, which can lessen the crowds, though not the heat! The low season can bring rain, but if you pack an umbrella, it is a great time to go.
Venice is pedestrian-only, so expect plenty of walking, including bridges, steps, and uneven stone lanes. Water-based transport is part of the experience — hop on the vaporetto (water bus) or treat yourself to a gondola ride.
Start with the icons like St. Mark’s Square and the Bridge of Sighs and then head north beyond San Marco and Rialto to Cannaregio for a quieter slice of Venetian life that many visitors miss.

Senior Tour Design Manager
I was born and raised in Rome, and my family is immersed in travel. I have family members who are Tour Managers, local guides, airline agents, hoteliers, and port agents. During my free time, I enjoy antiquing, walking my dog — a Lagotto Romagnolo (an Italian breed specialized in truffle hunting), and growing Pra' Basil to make my own homemade pesto.
Tour Manager
Twenty years ago, I decided I needed a change in my life and career. I've been a Tour Manager ever since. To me, helping travelers experience the joy of travel while sharing my passion for my country is an honor. The perspective I want to share? Italians are colorful, with lots of heart.

Our goal, when planning our Italy trip, was to use a tour company to take care of everything for us. COLLETTE went beyond our expectations. We saw so much and learned so much. Our tour manager, Giulio Passariello, was amazing! Cannot say enough great things about him. He was well informed, very helpful, never let anything upset him, and simply a very nice man. Our hotels were first class all the way. Also, our bus driver, Alex, was awesome. Superb driving and so nice. Will definitely recommend Collette to others.

This Italy tour with Collette was amazing. It gave us a quick overview of places we want to revisit. Stresa was such a relaxing place to start with the hotel overlooking the water. Portofino and cinque terra were also a place to re-explore and hike around between the villages. Of course Tuscany was truly beautiful with our villa overlooking the valley. The food at our villa was delicious and the people were so friendly making it a perfect place to stay. We enjoyed our excursions while in Tuscany as well as our day just relaxing at the villa. We needed one more day as we were thinking about exploring Siena or a winery. We felt comfortable in Venice and enjoyed seeing the city wake up before the tourists. I would have liked to see the inside of St. Mark’s Basilica but tickets were sold out. Knowing that we had free time one afternoon beforehand may have allowed us to get timed tickets. All in all the trip was exactly has we had hoped and we definitely need to go back. Thank you to Andrea for being the ideal tour manager. He along with our small travel group were fun, on time and respectful which we couldn’t have asked for anything better!

I loved this tour! The included food and local experiences were fantastic! Our tour guide was super, so knowledgeable and caring and friendly. We felt like her family. I loved everything but probably the truffle hunting experience and the Tuscan cooking class were my favorites. This has been my favorite Europe trip, my first with Collette. I will definitely be taking another trip with them.

Andre was an amazing tour navigator, very safe driver and always calm. We absolutely loved all the sights included with this tour. This was our first time in Europe, so enjoyed all sight. Wish inclusions would have included tour on Notre Dame in Paris. All tour guides were excellent, especially the Vatican guide, except for the one in Paris (she was rather boring and lacked enthusiasm!

Embark on a captivating journey that takes you from the piazzas of Rome to the canals of Venice.
View 10-Day ItineraryYes, Italy is a very safe country for travelers. Like in any popular destination, it’s wise to stay alert in crowded tourist areas, especially around major landmarks and public transportation, where pickpocketing can occasionally happen.
The best time for a boat tour in Venice is spring (April–June) and early fall (September–October), when the weather is mild. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal for softer light, cooler temperatures, and fewer boats on the water.
Absolutely! Venice is the perfect base for island-hopping in the lagoon. Take a short boat ride to Murano to watch master glassblowers at work, visit Burano for its colorful houses and lace-making traditions, or head to Torcello for a quiet escape and a taste of Venice’s early history. These islands are easy to reach and show a different side of Venetian culture.
Pack comfortable walking shoes, layers for changing weather, and a light rain jacket, especially in the off-season. Don’t forget sun protection in warmer months, and bring a day bag that zips securely to prevent pickpockets. A reusable water bottle and a small phrasebook or translation app can also come in handy.
Definitely. Venice is a great destination for solo travelers, and joining a guided tour makes it even better. You'll explore with a group, enjoy planned activities, and have local experts to help you get the most out of the experience, all while having the freedom to soak in the city at your own pace. It’s a perfect mix of independence and connection.
From handpicked hotels, restaurants, and cultural experiences to thoughtfully integrated free time, our on-the-ground team in Venice crafts journeys they'd want to take themselves.
Travelers always tell us that Tour Managers make the journey. It's like traveling with a friend who's got the inside scoop. They live in the destination and share hidden gems that only the locals know.
